Recent Advances in Co 3 O 4 -Based Hybrid Structures for Water Electrolysis
Abstract
Water electrolysis in association with electrocatalysts, has been indicated as a pivotal pathway to produce hydrogen and could
tackle the issues related to the carbon footprint. Co 3 O 4 -based hybrid structural materials with high catalytic activity and rich
defects are evaluated as effi cacious advocates of water splitting. This account commences by explicating the mechanistic
underpinnings of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Next, a range of hybrid structures of Co 3 O 4 with metals, metal
oxides, metal sulfi des, metal phosphides, metal selenides, layered double hydroxides, and carbon materials are introduced
as potential catalysts for HER. Finally, burdensome tasks and reliable guidelines for the progression of Co 3 O 4 -based architectures
for the enhancement of HER are discussed.
