Abstract

θ = 1/(1+exp[ε-εm/A])m
Dubinin-Astarkhov's adsorption isotherm equations based on Polanyi's adsorption potential theory have been applied to a number of adsorption systems using zeolite. However, these cannot consistently explain all the adsorption systems using zeolite. Thus, a new equation suitable for many adsorption systems has been developed by modifying Cohen-Kisarov's equation, in which the distribution function of adsorption energy is generalized as
θ = 1/(1+exp[ε-εm/A])m
where m, εm and A are constants that are characteristic to adsorption system. It appears that m assumes large values for bigger molecules, εm is equivalent to characteristic energy of Dubinin-Astarkhov's equation, and A is correlated to the physicochemical properties of adsorbate such as heat of vaporization.
