Abstract

The eight representative samples of zeolites or silicates obtained from eastern coastal area of Kyungpook were analyzed by means of chemical wet method, DTA and X-ray diffraction. As the result, it was recognized that the primary species of zeolite was known to be clinoptilolite mixed with quartz and feldspar. Very seldom heulandites or mordenites were also found. Montmorillonite, kaolinite, and illite ware also known as components of silicates. And the samples treated with HCl or NaOH solution were activated to be the adsorbent for the adsorption of vapors of H2O, C2H5OH and C6H6 through Diamond Kinter method. The adsorption capacities of these minerals against CO and CO2 gas under 1 atm 25 ℃ were also measured by modified B.E.T. method. And the comparisons between the measured adsorption capacities of natural zeolites and Linde molecular sieve were made. The natural zeolites prepared by the acid-base consecutive treatment exhibited to be good adsorbent for H2O, C2H5OH, C6H6 and other gases.
