A new short-cut method for distillation column design has been developed to calculate the number of theoretical plates. The proposed model is as follows:
N = lnS[(R-1/(α-1))/(R-Rm)]1.075 / lnα[R/(R+Rm(α-1)]0.5
This model is useful for multicomponent systems as well as binary systems.
