EMPIRICAL CORRELATIONS FOR THE MINIMUM TRANSPORT VELOCITY OF MULTIDISPERSE SLURRIES IN HORIZONTAL PIPES

Abstract

Empirical methods were developed for the prediction of minimum transport velocity(MTV) of settling slurries through horizontal pipes. Multidisperse slurries of different particle sizes and densities were included in the development of correlation. The correlation is based on the separation of the general particle volume dependence and the limiting MTV at zero volume fraction. The letter was calculated assuming a monodisperse slurry of the least readily transportable group of particles in a hypothetical fluid. For pipe diameter less than 50mm and total volume fraction of solid less than 0.15 the prediction showed satisfactory agreements with experimental values.
